Fiberglassing Stringers

Today I got what I would call the first step of covering the stringers. I realized that this used up a lot more resin than I thought it would. Over 3 gallons worth.

Here are the stringers with just the bottoms glued. I used a hand planer to get them contoured to the hull. Then, after cleaning it with acetone, I laid down to strips of roven and a thick coat of resin.

Wet resin and weights to hold them down good.

Dry resin and clamps/weights removed. All that fiberglass mat is just for the stringers.

All that resin and fiberglass later, here is what I ended up with.

I know it looks like crap, but I'm going to sand it all smooth then fill the air pockets. I tried my best to eliminate them, but They just kept coming back. What You see there is 3 layers of roven and 1 layer of choped mat over each stringer. Both sides overlap in the middle. I did this because this hull has a thin bottom. I figure with the jet pump mounting, I should build it up some. I have a lot of roving left over, so I may put down a few more layers.

Stringers sanded and excess trimmed off the front. Not worried about the exposed wood right now. I still have to put in a sub floor and a bulk head, so that will be covered.
